Preschool Activity - Lacing Cards

GROUP: Pre-K +
TIME: Less than 30 Minutes

Small children love to learn new things every day, and what better way to learn than through easy and practical activities. Card lacing for instance is a great way to learn how to lace and tie your shoes. Lacing cards promotes fine motor skills in young children as well as improve hand-eye coordination.

You can find lacing cards in your local preschool supplies store, arts and crafts store or online in sites like or You can also make cards using recycled materials such as greeting cards, magazines and news paper pictures. The cards pictures can be anything: bunnies, shoes, flowers or even cars. You can even use cards related to seasons or a particular theme. the best part is that they can be used for both boys and girls.

  • Construction paper, foam or heavy cardstock
  • Hole puncher
  • Shoe laces or Yarn
  • Scotch tape
  • Scissors
  • Glue

  • CUT upper portion of the card
  • USE the hole puncher to punch holes evenly around the edges of the card
  • CUT bottom part of the card and glue in place
  • CUT pieces of yarn with the same length or use shoe laces (about 1.5 to 2 feet long)
